Since the inception of the WNED Buffalo Niagara Guitar Festival in 2001, the North American Rock Guitar Competition has consistently been one of the most exciting and anticipated dimensions of the event’s multi-day line up. 

Outstanding support from the University at Buffalo’s Center For The Arts, media, guitar fans and major industry partners such as Gibson and Guitar Player Magazine catapulted the contest from regional to world class in just a few short years. In 2003, the magic of the Competition was even captured in the WNED television production DRIVEN TO PLAY, a national “rockumentary” that was aired on PBS stations throughout the country.  By 2007, competition finalists represented countries from all around the globe. 

It is this past success and enormous future potential that has precipitated the decision of the Guitar Competition team to not hold the event in 2008 and instead take the time as a planning year to strategize, refine and guide the momentum of the event in the best, biggest direction possible.

We are thankful for your tremendous passion and enthusiasm.  We hope it builds throughout this brief hiatus, so that together, we can take our 2009 North American Rock Guitar Competition to the greatest heights yet!
